PROJECT UPDATES
In September, the Beaverton Battery Energy Storage Project has received confirmation from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) that it’s qualified to participate in the upcoming Long-Term Request for Proposal (LT-1 RFP).
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Beaverton Battery Energy Storage Project is a proposed 100 MW, four-hour duration battery storage facility near the Town of Beaverton, in Brock County, Ontario. The Project is proposed by wpd Canada Corp. an Ontario-based renewable energy developer in response to the IESO’s Long-Term RFP (LT1 RFP) for new build storage facilities. The project will include the construction of battery energy storage units, transformer stations (TS), transmission connection facilities, and ancillary components. The project will ultimately provide a maximum of 100 megawatts (MW) of power storage and up to four hours of electricity output available during periods of high electricity grid demand. Once constructed, the project will help meet the energy capacity need identified by the (IESO) and will provide long-term benefits to Ontarians and the overall Ontario electricity system. Commercial operation of this project is planned for late 2027.
PROJECT DETAILS
The Beaverton Battery Energy Storage Project will consist of containerized batteries, inverters, medium voltage transformers, gravel internal access roads, buried collector and communication cabling, a small transmission substation and potential operations and maintenance building. The layout of the infrastructure within the project’s footprint has yet to be confirmed and will be determined through additional engineering studies, equipment procurement, and an environmental assessment. The project will also include a connection to the Hydro One transmission system.
